July 10 – July 25, 2021
Walk, Run, Swim or Bike to Help Conquer MG!
In July 2021, Conquer MG is hosting the 9th Annual Virtual Viking Challenge to lift up those who struggle with this often disabling rare autoimmune neuromuscular disease.
For 16 days, from July 10 to July 25, we invite you to challenge yourself while helping to raise awareness and funds to eliminate myasthenia gravis. During our challenge we encourage members of our MG community to do healthy outdoor activity to the extent you’re able.
How the Challenge Works
Step 1: Sign up
Step 2: Participate as a rugged individual, or invite your friends and family to join your team.
Step 3: Walk, run, hike, bike, skate, swim or paddle (or whatever!).
Step 4: Starting July 10, log your activity in RunSignUp, on the Results page. The first time you log activity, you can set an individual goal for yourself. You’ll need to log all activity by noon, July 26.
Step 5: When you log your distance, you also can check out the group’s collective progress along our imaginary 1,950 mile Viking route through Norway. Are you ahead of your friends on the leader board? Check back frequently to see!
Tackle one mile or aim for more. Complete your distance all at once or break it up over the 16-day period.
If you have myasthenia, one or two miles might be ambitious. By all means, take care – set a reasonable goal, do your distance in the cooler morning or evening hours, and lean on a friend.
Logging Your Mile(s)
Starting July 10, after each activity (or at least weekly), submit your distance (and your time, if you like) in RunSignUp. Don’t worry…it’s easy and instructions will be on our RunSignUp website. Be sure to watch for badges as you complete your goal!
Let’s Sightsee Viking Norway Throughout the Challenge!
As you post miles, the group will collectively log miles for MG, too. Our goal is to travel 1,950 miles virtually through scenic Norway, starting at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. We’ll pass fantastic fjords and islands and Viking port cities. Our last stop is north of the Arctic Circle, where the largest building from the Viking period can be found in Lofotr. Join the Virtual Viking Facebook Group to see photos and stories as we reach new sites.
The MG Community Wall
In June we’ll host an MG Community Wall – where you can add your name, or dedicate your challenge to someone you support. Watch for details!
The Challenge Includes…
- A finisher’s short-sleeve event t-shirt & finisher’s certificate mailed to you
- Downloadable print-at-home bib (to take a photo with!)
- Opportunities to be entered for prizes
- An invitation to our Facebook Virtual Viking Group Page
Finisher T-shirts will be ordered at the close of the race on July 26. They will be mailed to participants August 9-11.
